Do you find that it improves your playing or is the change in possible set up what you're after. Otherwise I wouldn't see any benefits from doing this.

Why don't you just play with your left foot in a double pedal setup and get a remote high-hat for your right foot?

I don't (and wouldn't) actually play like this, it's just quite interesting to think up new ideas.
I saw a pick from a Billy Ward clinic showing how moving the second rack tom so it was halfway between your floors and your first rack tom could really help your movement around the kit. It also allowed for the ride to be closer.
What i'm trying to say is, you shouldn't be confined to only one method of setting up your instrument. If it allows for new methods of creativity, then try out as much as possible.
(I did a couple of ensemble groups at college where i used lots of concert toms around the side of the kit, and there are times you can get a really "tribal" feel. Strange, though, since i was playing jazz standards. lol...)

I thought of this a while back, the double kick arrangement, but i didn't want to have to pick up a second double pedal... the one thing that i wondered about is whether the universal joint system would allow for comfortable placement of the pedals since you wouldn't want to 'cross them up'... cross up the universal joint system bars.

I remember the Remote Kick Concept!!!
I was very tempted to try it but at the time I didn't have he hardware to make it happen so didn't. I am currently writing a piece on it though for UK's "DRUMMER" magazine...

Interesting conceptually, no less.
pgroover had an interesting alternative AW.
Sounds like that Ward thing you mentioned is similar in concept to what Weckl has going on these days...it also would seem one of the "Gruber things," for what it's worth.
